About Us and Our Philosophy of Care
Welcome to midwifery care! The Greenbank Women’s Clinic and Birth Center, Ltd. offers families full service quality care for their pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum period. Cynthia Jaffe, Licensed Midwife is trained to care for the essentially normal woman throughout the childbearing cycle and has been providing these services on Whidbey Island for more than 20 years.
Except for emergencies, all decisions regarding your care will be made in consultation with you. Please feel free to ask questions at any time regarding yourself, your family or your baby. Cynthia Jaffe, LM, is committed to making you a full partner in all decisions regarding your health care and the health of your baby.
Pregnancy, labor and birth are normal, human functions to which the majority of women are extremely well suited. Some medical professionals oppose out of hospital birth because they believe the risks inherent in childbirth warrant specialized equipment and services only available in a hospital. There is no scientific evidence that for the majority of healthy women, giving birth in a hospital is safer than giving birth outside the hospital, with the assistance of a well trained and equipped attendant. It is very important that midwife and client work together and share the responsibility for a safe and enriching childbirth experience. Whenever deviations from normal occur, physician consult will be sought.
